Material Buyer – Manufacturing

A well respected, leading precision engineering company based in Plymouth are looking to grow their planning team.

The successful applicant will be required to procure, schedule and control the supply of inventory in the form of raw material and components to support the on time shipment of product to customer demand.  This includes the provisioning and co-ordination of subcontracted components and to provide delivery promise and status information.

To monitor Supplier performance and capacity against required output levels.  To work with the business Value Stream Planners, providing information and reporting. Participating in necessary actions to enable Business Plan to be achieved.

Duties & Experience required:

  • Ensure systems of work comply with the requirements of the company health and safety policy.
  • Support the procurement of all BOM items in the MRPC groups for which you have responsibility.
  • Deal with all internal and external queries relating to the purchasing function of the Scheduling department.
  • Ensure continuity of supply of purchased items within the requisite inventory targets.
  • Initiate and support the expedition of overdue and priority purchase orders.
  • Action MD06 exception reports and relevant order reports within agreed timeframe.
  • Provide timely clearance of imported items using the appropriate import clearance procedures.
  • Maintain the cost savings report.
  • Ensure all of the department’s documents are filed in a timely and accurate manner. Other administrative and clerical duties as and when required including scheduling support as and when necessary.
  • Ensure systems of work comply with the requirements as laid down by ISO9001:2000, ISO14001 and all relevant ISPIs.

Training / Education required:

The job holder must be a self starter, a team player and demonstrate above average interpersonal skills. In particular they should possess excellent communication skills and liaison with other team members is required. The role requires attention detail and the job holder will have the capability to liaise with team members from other departments.

The Incumbent requires a good telephone manner and have an ability to discuss and negotiate with suppliers technicalities concerning supplies.
