An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for a hardworking, dynamic and pro-active individual to lead the operations side of the Import Department to cover maternity leave. We're looking for a highly motivated candidate with experience of leading a team in a busy operational environment. The successful applicant will have excellent leadership, organisational, communications and IT skills (Excel specifically) and will ideally have experience within the international shipping industry,


The successful candidate will report to the Import Manager.

The Shipping Co-ordinator is responsible for a Team Leader and 11 members of staff.


The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the day to day running of the operational side of the Import Department which includes the following responsibilities:

  • Registering container orders.
  • Creating customs clearance instructions.
  • Checking shipping documents ready for international payments.
  • Checking and expediting shipments and telex releases.
  • Scheduling container deliveries into the distribution centres.
  • Reviewing / issuing of reports.
  • Investigating and resolving issues.
  • Updating & monitoring of information in both internal and third-party systems.
  • The Shipping Co-ordinator acts as the first point of escalation on a variety of issues

Skills & Requirements:

  • The ability to lead and motivate a team working in a challenging, busy environment
  • The ability to communicate effectively with a range stake-holders
  • The ability to work calmly when under pressure
  • Excellent attention to detail, accuracy and consistency of work
  • Commitment and confidence with strong administrative, organisational and prioritisation skills
  • Proficient written, numerical, analytical and IT skills, particularly Excel and a sound understanding of online processes
  • Optional - experience of working within the international shipping industry would be an advantage

Salary - £9.26 per hour

The hours of work are:

  • Start between 0800 and 0930
  • Finish between 1645 and 1815
  • 1 Hour lunch

Employees need to make sure they are working 7.75 hours a day, Monday to Friday
