Job Description

Working in the metrology department, you will manage the day to day running of the CMM which includes operating it, creating programs when required as well as ensuring the quality of the product coming through is up to the required standard. You will also work with other engineering disciplines to enhance and develop measurement methods.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To inspect mechanical components to drawings accurately and confidently;
  • Create / complete calibration documents;
  • Write programmes for the CMM;
  • Use manual methods of inspection accurately and correctly;
  • To ensure that the equipment used is within the calibration period and hasn’t expired;
  • Work with managers and supervisors to implement the Company’s policies and business objectives;
  • Make a positive contribution to maintaining a workplace that is healthy, safe, neat and tidy;
  • Carry out any other duties reasonable within capability as required.

Essential Experience / Qualifications and Attributes Required:

  • Good understanding of inspection practices
  • Keen interest in dimensional metrology, kinematic design, system modelling, measurement uncertainty, alignment/assembly principles
  • Ability to use OGP / Zone 3 software or similar, training will be given
  • Experience of offline programming via 3D geometry
  • Willingness to introduce, manage & document state of the art metrology processes such as MBD & parametric programming of similar generic parts
  • Previous experience with OGP smartscope CNC300 optical/ tactile probing and Keyence IM8020 optical will be advantageous
  • GCSE Science and Maths or equivalent
  • Related Engineering qualification preferred
  • Good manual dexterity
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings effectively and correctly
  • Understanding of geometrical tolerancing
  • Good communication skills and the ability to liaise with people
  • Good general IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel and Access
  • Good time management skills
  • Able to work under own initiative
  • Eligible to work in UK
