Job Description

The Planner/Buyer is responsible for the Production plan within the Master Production Schedule (MPS) and for the Material Requirements Planning (MRP) for the relevant parts within the Bill of Material (BOM) for the products they are controlling in an effective way to support Customer requirements, Production requirements and overall control of the Inventory.

 

In conjunction with controlling components the Planner/Buyer will be responsible for ensuring staffing is available to meet customer demand and responsibility for maintaining the capacity loadings. This process will include the release and procurement of the externally sourced components from the preferred supplier and also the control of the internal shop orders.

 

Working closely with the Production team to monitor the output of weekly capacity and propose appropriate actions when required. The role is responsible for purchasing manufacturing materials, components & finished goods in line with Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery, Environment (SQCDE) objectives set within the Manufacturing division. Flexi time and working from home are available, no weekend work required in addition excellent benefits, training and support are available.

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Participate in Continuous Improvement activities
  • Creation of viable production plans to support customer order and forecasts
  • Timely reaction to engineering changes
  • Close liaison with production managers and commodity buyer to maximise utilisation of resources
  • Manage finished goods & component inventory levels to agreed guidelines
  • Maintenance of Capacity data
  • Effective communication with external and internal suppliers
  • Timely and effective order progressing
  • Rescheduling of outstanding/overdue Purchase Orders
  • Interrogating data to ensure that correct Planning and Purchasing rules are applied
  • Reporting on departmental KPI’s
  • Developing vendor relationships to minimise inventory and reduce lead times without compromising quality or production requirements
  • Utilising MRP to action requisitions and messages to effectively manage and maintain purchase order delivery
  • Reporting quality performance of all vendors and trends to the Supplier Quality Engineer/Commodity buyer
  • Tactical supplier management
  • Requires an in depth understanding of both the data set up and operational functionality.  Particularly within the areas of Inventory Part, Supplier for Purchase Part when reviewing and updating MRP data and delivery rules
  • Attendance at Engineering Change Notification (ECN) meetings
  • To supply and update relevant information for planning and purchased items data base. (e.g. safety stock)
  • Support the purchasing of non-stocked and Kanban items required for the tool room and general Company demand

 

Requirements

 

  • APICS or CIPS qualified (or equivalent) is desirable
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Excel to Essentials standard
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience of planning or purchasing in a busy manufacturing environment
  • General education 3 GCSE Grade 3 or above including Maths and English (or an equivalent International standard)
  • Good communication and telephone manner
  • Experience in Planning and Purchasing procedures and processes
