TQR Exeter are working with a highly rated private school in Teignmouth. We are seeking a School Chef to join their 3 other chefs on a permanent full time basis, starting asap. This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to progress their career within a highly supportive team in a 100% fresh food environment.

As a School Chef you will be required to:

  • Prepare a wide variety of fresh meals from scratch for 350 children + 52 members of staff for breakfast, lunch & dinner
  • Cook everything from scratch for 350 people every day, including all the bread all the cakes all the main dishes, they use fresh vegetables and have a fresh salad bar every day
  • Management of stock & food safety
  • Be customer focused, have great kitchen skills & initiative
  • Be a great team player & keen to learn
  • Have a willingness to learn and contribute to their high-volume, scratch-baking operations

To apply you must:

  • Have a minimum Level 2 NVQ
  • Have Level 2 Food Safety & Hygiene
  • A strong background in high-turnover environments such as restaurants or hotels, with experience in a similar role
  • Have a proactive, can-do attitude with a passion for cooking and delivering fresh, quality food within a tight budget
  • Basic understanding of due diligence, safe cooking temperatures, and correct food handling procedures (training will be provided)
  • Be comfortable with a full on day – always something to be getting on with
  • Have a smart appearance
  • Be punctual
  • Take pride in your work
  • Be flexible with your availability & prepared to work 5 evening shifts and one weekend per month on a rota basis
  • Be happy to go through a full DBS and reference checks which the costs will be covered
