Job Description

In support of its ambitious growth targets, a much-loved food processing company is looking for an inspiring individual to take on a newly created lead role within its factory in Torbay.

This is a business-critical role, where you’ll be further developing the positive people culture, through hands-on leadership and an approach that focuses on giving people the tools and support to enable them to do their jobs most effectively.

You’ll be joining a management team that invests time in developing its people to ensure effective succession planning as the business continues to expand. As such, mentoring of key people in your team will be crucial as you look to develop your own role into a more senior position over time.

This is a great time to be joining the company as it looks to capitalise on its growth in the retail sector as well as wholesale and hospitality. It is also driving innovation of value-added products within its category.

What functions of the business you’ll be responsible for…

As you’d expect, this is a multi-faceted role overseeing various areas of a busy factory including production, operations, engineering, and logistics.

With 130+ factory-based employees, this is a busy role in a fast-paced environment that strives for excellence as a BRC AA rated business.

Here’s a flavour of how varied each day will look:

  • Planning and delivery of on time and in full production levels
  • Ensuring GMP, QA, H&S and excellent hygiene standards at all times throughout the factory, and providing staff with the necessary training, guidance and qualifications to ensure this.
  • Maximising resources within the factory from goods-in to product despatch; and in doing so challenging and exceeding budgetary targets for the factory resources (people, material, plant, etc) wherever possible.
  • Continuously improve practices and procedures encouraging production staff to think outside the box and implement improvements.
  • Liaise with the company Health and Safety advisers to ensure the company is operating within the law.
  • Work closely with the engineering team to ensure optimum equipment effectiveness, minimising machine downtime and agreeing times for planned maintenance.
  • Recruitment of, development and appraisals for staff and management of any disciplinary process.
  • Encouraging a collaborative working culture where the whole team is invested in achieving production targets.
  • Oversee product movements between sites to ensure that product is delivered at the correct time and temperature to meet technical requirements.
  • Provide directors with KPI reports on regular basis.

About you…

  • You’ll either already be operating at this level or will be an experienced Production Manager looking to take the next step in your career.
  • Either way, experience of working in the food production/food processing sector is essential.
  • You’re as ambitious about your own career as the company is about its continued growth!
  • It’s essential that you have a hands-on approach – i.e. if you see an opportunity to help out on the factory floor, you’ll jump right in. As such, you’ll be someone who’s much more at home in the factory, than in an office.
  • An inspiring leader of people who welcomes inclusivity and diversity and takes genuine interest in your team.
  • You’re someone who values honesty, integrity, positivity and passion.

What’s on offer…

  • Salary up to £60,000
  • Genuine career development opportunity with more senior prospects as company continues to grow
  • Health benefits – dental/medical care
  • Staff discount on delicious products!
  • On site parking and staff canteen
  • Fun company events throughout the year!
